The United Nations University and the Embassies of Costa Rica and France in Japan invite the public to attend “Tokyo Blue Talk: Advances Towards a Sustainable and Healthy Ocean — The Impact of Plastic Pollution on a Sustainable Blue Economy,” on May 9.
UNU said: “Healthy oceans are crucial for the well-being and survival of humanity. In addition to producing 50% of the oxygen we breathe, oceans are the main regulator of climate and global temperature, and the largest sink for carbon dioxide. Their ecosystems, biodiversity, and abundance of resources and energy are vital to the planet.”
As part of the multiple efforts undertaken by the international community to address ocean challenges, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution through which Costa Rica and France will co-host the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference to take place in Nice, France.
In the lead-up to the Conference, this Tokyo Blue Talk will engage relevant actors to discuss the impact of ocean pollution, primarily from plastics and other major pollutants, and efforts to achieve SDG 14 and the financing schemes (blue economy) that seek to develop more sustainable and healthy oceans.
This event will be in English and advance registration is required by May 8.
